OUTDOORNISTA was founded in 2020 by Women Veterans, mental health professionals, and outdoor enthusiasts who recognized the need for more accessible, inclusive, and nontraditional approaches to wellness within the Veteran community. Our work was created around the belief that connection, movement, adventure, nature, and shared experiences can play an important role in supporting overall well-being.
Since our founding, OUTDOORNISTA has created and supported opportunities for Veterans to participate in a wide range of outdoor and adaptive experiences, including rock climbing, ice climbing, whitewater rafting, winter activities, summer recreation, wellness experiences, and other adventure-based programs. We focus on reducing barriers to participation so Veterans of varying abilities, backgrounds, and experience levels can take part, build confidence, develop new skills, and connect with others.
While OUTDOORNISTA supports all Veterans and service members, we remain especially committed to reaching populations that have historically had less access to recreational, wellness, and community resources, including Women Veterans, Veterans with disabilities, and underserved and underrepresented Veteran communities.
Our team brings together licensed therapists, social workers, recreational therapists, adaptive sports trainers, Veteran advocates, and other mental health, wellness, accessibility, and outdoor recreation professionals. Our team brings together licensed therapists, social workers, recreational therapists, adaptive sports trainers, Veteran advocates, and other mental health, wellness, accessibility, and outdoor recreation professionals. Together, we draw on a wide range of experience to create inclusive programs, connect Veterans with valuable resources, and help remove barriers to participation, independence, and community engagement.
We are especially committed to supporting Veterans who may face additional challenges related to disability, mobility, visual impairment, mental health, or access to traditional services. Through collaboration, education, adaptive activities, and community partnerships, our team works to create opportunities that promote confidence, connection, wellness, and a greater quality of life.

OUTDOORNISTA is committed to expanding access, inclusion, and independence for blind, visually impaired, and low-vision Veterans, as well as Veterans with mobility limitations, physical disabilities, and other disabilities. OUTDOORNISTA is committed to expanding access, inclusion, and independence for blind, visually impaired, and low-vision Veterans, as well as Veterans with mobility limitations, physical disabilities, and other disabilities. Through adaptive recreation, education, community resources, and emerging technology, we work to reduce barriers to participation and support Veterans in living active, connected, and independent lives.
As part of that commitment, we explore assistive and adaptive technology, accessible programming, adaptive recreation, education, and community partnerships that can help increase independence, mobility, confidence, and connection for the Veterans we serve.

OUTDOORNISTA is proud to have partnered with The Home Depot Foundation through its Celebration of Service program, which brings Team Depot volunteers together with nonprofit organizations to improve the homes and lives of U.S. Veterans. Through this partnership, OUTDOORNISTA helped coordinate and support 13 service projects throughout the Las Vegas and Henderson area, addressing needs within our local Veteran community.
The Home Depot Foundation’s Celebration of Service focuses on projects such as critical home repairs, accessibility improvements, renovations, and other efforts that help Veterans live in safer, more comfortable, and more accessible environments. We are grateful for the opportunity to have served alongside Team Depot and look forward to continuing to support even more Veterans and Veteran families in Southern Nevada.

Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and fund our mission.
